Subject: ports
Dear Li,
I avoided getting a port for a long time.
Yet, after a while my arms began to hurt so badly after chemo
that I would be in severe pain for several days. I remember setting
in my doctor's office at M.D. Anderson with tears rolling down
my face while my mother and daddy rubbed the arm I had just had
chemo in. Believe it or not I am 26 years old--yes, I cried like
I was four. Two days later when I returned home(Jonesboro, Arkansas)
I had to go to the emergency room and get pain killers. Before
my next chemo--I GOT A PORT. I have not had any pain or problems
since. Any scar that it may leave will be well worth it. Sincerely,
Jennifer Bridger
P.S. I wrote my surgeon a note before
surgery and told him to practice plastic surgery on me. My scar
is not very bad and my doctors compliment it.
