Subject: Ports
I have had both an infusaport and a Hickman catheter. I had Hodgkin's Disease
in '93 and had the infusaport and am going through a reoccurrence and had the
Hickman. I definitely would recommend the infusaport over the Hickman. The
Hickman requires daily site care (cleaning and flushing) and there are tubes
hanging out of your chest. The infusaport is under the skin and does not
require daily cleaning. However, I underwent a peripheral stem cell
transplant and had to have the Hickman. My veins could not withstand chemo
and that is why I have so much experience with ports.
