Following are some frequently asked questions about PAK-RAK III
- Q. What size pick-up is required to mount the PAK-RAK(tm) III?
- A. PAK-RAK(tm) III is best suited for full or mid-size pickups
with minimum 6 foot bed. Suggested bed height from 27" to 35".
Rak weight is 235 Ibs. However, rack is composed of four sections, with
heaviest section only 65 Ibs.
- Q. What size motorcycle will the RAK lift?
- A. The RAK will lift any current standard production motorcycle.
The unit adjusts to accommodate varying wheel base and tire sizes.
- Q. How difficult is installation?
- A. The RAK is a very straight forward installation that can
be done by the purchaser in 2-3 hours. Some additional time may be needed
to run an electrical wire up to vehicle battery. The unit is composed of
4 sections that make it easy for one person to handle. The front and rear
mount plates of RAK are bolted down to threaded plates that mount under
bed of truck.
- Q. Isn't this installed RAK going to tie-up the use of truck?
- A. No. The installed RAK still leaves a good bit of room in
bed. Also, after the initial installation, the unit can be unbolted from
the bed of truck by oneself in 20 minutes.
- Q. What kind of a winch cable operates this unit?
- A. PAK-RAK(tm) III uses a 9000 lb test nylon web cable.
- Q. Is it necessary to have a level parking lot to operate RAK.
- A. No. The loading area should be approximately level. It's
not even necessary that the loading area is paved, as long as it is reasonably
smooth and hard packed.
- Q. Can one tow a trailer with the RAK loaded?
- A. Yes. If you have a large travel trailer, it would be best
to have a long-bed truck. A 6 1/2 foot bed truck can be used with a trailer,
but may require short extension ball mount. The RAK will extend approx 7"
beyond bumper of long bed truck. On a short-bed truck the RAK will extend
approx 12" beyond bumper.
- Q. Won't this unit require a lot of maintenance?
- A. No. The mechanics of RAK are very simple. There is practically
no maintenance to it. Keep the RAK clean.
- Q. Could the PAK-RAK(tm) be used as a one person loader for your Personal Watercraft?(i.e. Jetski)
- A. Yes. Simple adapter brackets for watercraft are now available.
